What do you give someone who cooks every night?

Another kitchen gadget ends up in a drawer. Give one to three years of Origano Pro instead: a code to tuck into a card, activated whenever they are ready.

What do you give someone who cooks every night?

Everyone knows someone who cooks every single night. Your mother, who still feeds the whole family on Sundays. Your brother, who just had a second kid and eats standing at the counter. Your friend who moved into her first apartment and found out that groceries do not buy themselves.

And every time Christmas or Mother’s Day comes around, it is the same dead end. Another kitchen gadget headed for the back of a drawer. One more cookbook to join the six already on the shelf. What these people lack is not recipes. It is having to decide, every day at 5 pm, what is for dinner tonight.

A gift that gets used every night

Origano is an online recipe manager: one place to keep every recipe, plan the week’s menu and generate the grocery list that goes with it. The free plan covers the essentials up to 50 recipes. The Pro plan opens up everything else.

That Pro plan is what you can give, for one, two or three years. In practice it is a gift card:

  • one payment, with no subscription in your name and no automatic renewal;
  • a code you hand over however you like, by email or printed in a card;
  • a term that starts the day they activate the code, not the day you bought it;
  • a code with no expiry date, which can wait under the tree as long as it needs to.

That last point matters more than it looks. You can buy in November for Christmas, or in April for Father’s Day, without eating a single month of the subscription.

What people usually give, and why it does not last

Gifts for someone who cooks all look alike. The trendy chef’s cookbook is beautiful, but it adds recipes to a pile that is already overflowing. A meal kit box solves one week, then everything starts over. The new appliance is useful, if it ever finds a spot on the counter.

None of them touches what actually wears people down: the mental load of deciding, planning, writing the list, and often being the only person in the house who thinks about it.

A year of Origano Pro is something else:

  • All their recipes in one place. The ones from blogs, Instagram reels, screenshots and handwritten cards, imported without retyping anything.
  • The week’s menu in a few minutes. Origano draws from their recipes and fills the grid of lunches and dinners.
  • The grocery list done for them. One button, and the week’s ingredients are added up and grouped.
  • The whole household on the same page. With Pro, the menu, the list and the recipe books are shared with the rest of the family.
  • No advertising, now or later.

How to give Origano Pro

Buying a gift card currently takes an Origano account. The free account is enough, and it takes a minute to create.

1. Open “Offer Origano”

Once you are signed in, the small gift icon at the top of the page leads straight to the form. You will also find it in your account menu.

2. Pick the length

One year, two years or three. The price of each is shown next to it, and the longer the term, the less each year costs.

Three years is the right call for someone who has always cooked and is not about to stop. One year is perfect as an introduction.

3. Pick how to hand it over

Two options, depending on your style:

  • By email. You enter their first name and address, add a short note, and they get their code right away. Ideal when you will not be there on the day.
  • The code comes to you. Origano prepares a printable gift card with the code and the instructions. Print it, slip it into a greeting card, or save it as a PDF to attach to your own message.

Payment goes through Stripe, and you can always find the list of gifts you have given, with the card ready to print again.

4. They activate the code

They create a free account, or sign in to their own, then enter the code on the redeem page. Dashes and capital letters do not matter. Their account switches to Pro immediately, and the end date is shown on screen.

If they already have recipes in Origano, nothing moves: they keep everything, and the 50 recipe limit goes away.

Which occasions

Christmas. The gift that takes no room in the suitcase and is still useful in July.

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. For the parent who ran the kitchen for twenty years and deserves to have some of that load lifted.

New parents. In the first months with a baby, nobody has the energy to plan anything. A shared weekly menu and a grocery list the other parent can pick up on the way home from work beat a tenth newborn onesie.

A first apartment. For the kid leaving home with three recipes in their head and the intention of eating something other than pasta.

Moving in together. The perfect moment to merge two recipe collections into a single shared book.

A birthday, quite simply, for the person around you who cooks every night and never complains about it.

What they get with Pro

For the whole length of the gift, they get everything the Pro plan offers:

  • unlimited recipes;
  • sharing of recipe books, the weekly menu and the grocery list with family or roommates;
  • AI grocery list cleanup, which removes the salt, oil and flour they already have;
  • measurement conversion between metric and US cups;
  • automatic filing of new recipes into their categories;
  • comments on recipes, to note their own tweaks.

When the term ends, nobody is charged anything. The account goes back to the free plan, and they decide for themselves whether to keep going.

What does it cost?

Pro normally costs $30 USD a year, or $4 USD a month. A one year gift card matches one year of Pro, and the two and three year cards come out a little cheaper per year. The exact price is shown on the form before you pay.

Either way, it is a single payment. Nothing renews, and nothing will be charged later.

No advertising, on either plan.

Where to start

  1. Create a free account, or sign in to yours.
  2. Open Offer Origano and pick the length.
  3. Send the code by email, or print the card and keep it for the day.

The hardest part is still finding the right greeting card.
